Breeding Philosophy

At Shadetree breeding exceptional quality Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs has been my passion since 1988. There is much thought and planning put into every breeding. Breeding GSMD is a bit of a challenge since I am working with a rare breed with a limited gene pool. Over the past couple of decades I have found pedigrees which blend together nicely to produce mentally, physically and structural sound dogs. Temperament is my foremost concern as this is a large breed and they must have a kind and stable temperament to fit into family life in today’s society. Showing in conformation is my hobby so I also strive to produce dogs that will excel in the conformation ring. Since this is an all around working breed I also attempt to maintain the inherent working abilities of the breed.

My puppies are raised with lots of love and hands on attention. Early socialization is very important for building confidence and maximizing the inherited potential of each individual puppy. They are properly exposed to many different situations and stimuli before eight weeks. Puppies will be up to date on vaccinations and wormings and will be microchipped when they leave home at eight weeks. They are sold with a sales agreement and AKC papers and pedigree. I offer lifetime support to the owners of my puppies. If you are interested in a puppy out of one of my litters please fill out my application or give me a call. I do not take deposits until I have puppies available.
